Love Where We Live
Building an economic transformation where business and society are working together to respect and restore the planet.
The impact of climate change on business and communities is only getting more severe. At the same time, evolving policies, consumer behavior, trends and leadership models are creating new opportunities for a just transition to a net-zero carbon emissions economy. Transformational change is only possible, however, if company leadership, corporate directors and policymakers understand how to act on these climate-related risks and opportunities.
We cannot achieve a just transition to the net-zero economy without business—and those who do take the lead will benefit enormously. With bold climate ambition grounded in our principles of sustainability, equality and accountability, we can create a future that respects, values and protects our communities and planet.
Why
When it comes to the planet, the current economic order is failing us. The world is on track for 3°C of warming. At 3°C, we would see a significant drop in food production, an increase in urban heat waves, longer droughts, fiercer hurricanes and more devastating wildfires.
This threatens businesses, livelihoods and economies. But, it’s not too late to turn things around and accelerate a just transition to a net-zero emissions economy that respects planetary boundaries. By committing to an aligned pathway to net-zero emissions, business can catalyze the biggest economic opportunity of our time.
How
To start, we lead by example and ensure that our companies significantly reduce their environmental impacts and invest in new, regenerative business models. In addition, we also call on our peers to join us in taking these important steps and committing to a just transition to net-zero emissions by 2050.
We’re partnering with other business and civil society groups to address some of the systemic changes that are an essential part of the transition. From advocating for enabling policies to helping directors gain climate competency and guiding companies toward a just transition, we’re building the courageous leadership needed to end this crisis.
Impact
We’re seeing truly bold leadership—with business at the forefront of this movement. All sectors of society are stepping up climate ambition. Meaningful displays of leadership and teamwork around key moments like the Paris Agreement and its subsequent calls for increased ambition, have generated greater corporate support for climate. And yet it’s not enough.
We call on businesses to join us by demonstrating progress against their climate targets and to step up these commitments to drive further, faster action toward net-zero. From bringing climate competency into the boardroom to working with employees to ensure a just transition to green and decent jobs, every employer and employee can take action on climate today
Goals
1
Shift a critical mass of companies in every sector to set and deliver on net-zero emissions goals by 2050 and in turn fuel an ambition loop which sees countries committing and delivering on similarly ambitious goals.
2
Lead by example to deliver a just transition to net-zero business models for workforces and communities, while working with governments and unions to ensure a transformation to a more equal and inclusive economy.
3
Strengthen corporate climate governance to enable companies to address climate risks and opportunities through their corporate strategy, risk management and capital allocation by enhancing climate competence in the boardroom and other strategic levers.
